Italian Serie A giants Inter Milan are plotting a return for Chelsea midfielder Mateo Kovacic according to various media reports.
Popular English media platform Daily Mail claim that the Italians want the Croatian international player to return to the San Siro with Real Madrid keen to let him leave the club.
Mateo Kovacic is on a season-long loan at Chelsea from Real Madrid with no agreement for a permanent deal at the end of the loan agreement this summer.
The loan deal was part of the player-plus-cash transfer which took Belgian international shot-stopper Thibaut Courtois from Chelsea to Real Madrid last summer.
Courtois is now the undisputed number one goalkeeper at Real Madrid after he displaced former recipient Keylor Navas at the start of this season.
Before Mateo Kovacic joined Chelsea on loan in the summer, the 24-year-old had helped his Croatia side reach the final of last summer’s FIFA World Cup tournament in Russia in surprising fashion.
Mateo Kovacic has already talked up the possibility of staying at Chelsea when his loan spell comes to an end but he’s not getting ahead of himself as he’s still contracted to parent club Real Madrid.
He joined Real Madrid in 2015 after making 97 appearances for Inter Milan during a three-year spell.
