Chelsea have completed the signing of American forward Christian Pulisic from Borussia Dortmund ahead of Liverpool in what’s the major transfer of the two-day-old January transfer window.
The Blues paid €64m (£57.6m) for the transfer of the Bundesliga star thus making the 20-year-old the third most expensive transfer in the history of the club behind striker Alvaro Morata and goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga.
The reason why Chelsea beat Premier League title rivals Liverpool to his signing has now been revealed via a publication from Bleacher Report.
The Reds were the favourites to sign Christian Pulisic ahead of other interested parties like Manchester United and Chelsea some weeks ago.
It has been revealed that Liverpool didn’t forge ahead with a transfer for him because club manager Jurgen Klopp felt that the player won’t be able to break into his forward line.
The Reds boast one of the most feared forward line in English football with the famed trio of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane.
The three players have scored 27 goals in the Premier League between them thus leading the Merseysiders to the top of the league table ahead of defending champions Manchester City whom they face next on Thursday night.
