Former Manchester United goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar has been considered as one of the names to become director of football at the club, according to reports.

The veteran is a cult hero among the Old Trafford faithful due to his brilliant record with the club during his hay days. Since his retirement, van der Sar has progressed well in football management, with his achievement so far as the director of football at Ajax.
Manchester United are understood to be on the look for a director of football following their below-par performance in the just concluded transfer window, attracting just Fred, Diogo Dalot and goalkeeper, Lee Grant, despite being linked to a number of targets in the transfer market.
United’s CEO, Ed Woodward has been tasked with the daunting job of finding the club’s first director of football, with reports that the Red Devils are also looking at other top executives in the football world.
Monchi and Fabio Paratici have both been linked with the job, likewise Domenico Teti, but United are favouring Edwin van der Sar for the job due to the Dutchman’s involvement with the club in the past.
Mourinho is understood to be angry and frustrated at United’s failure to sign his desired targets during the summer transfer window, and will be more than happy to welcome a director of football who is expected to take the burden of the manager and CEO.
