Liverpool have already signed one diminutive winger this summer transfer window, with the £39m signing of Egyptian Mohamed Salah from Serie A club Roma, but it seems they are about to double down on wide players.
According to Portuguese publication A Bola, as quoted by Sport Witness, the Reds are the only Football club to table ‘solid offers’ for Sporting Lisbon star winger Gelson Martins, with their second offer believe to be about €50m, still on the table for the attacker.
The Anfield club was heavily linked with a transfer for the Portugal international winger earlier in the summer, but it looks as if they have now beefed up their interest.
Reports indicate that Sporting boss Jorge Jesus has been in constant touch with Martins during his summer holidays trying to convince the forward to remain with the Liga NOS club for one more year, snubbing interest from Premier League club Liverpool in the process.
It’s widely thought that Sporting will be rejecting bids that fall short of Martins’ €60m release clause, so if the Reds are willing to sign the flying winger, they will need to submit an improved bid.
The Portuguese netted seven goals and assisted 14 last campaign, and the 22-year-old attacker has also been linked with European heavyweights such as Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Manchester United.
