At the end of the January transfer window it was speculated that Chelsea had a sudden and strong interest in signing Inter Milan star player Antonio Candreva from his Italian club.
Chelsea boss Antonio Conte was said to be the person behind the pursuit of the player as he believes that the player could improve Chelsea’s squad – even though he would certainly have had a tough task to get into the team.
Despite not being the most convincing, the claims have stuck around and even over the weekend, an Italian outlet Gazzetta dello Sport, published an article on the player where they mentioned Chelsea interest in him.
The Italian source insisted that Chelsea manager Conte telephoned Inter Milan’s director of sport Piero Ausilio last week and said to him:
“I want Candreva, there’s €25m for you…”
Ausilio however knocked Conte back, which makes them look strong and determined, and it gives a clue to us as to where all this may be coming from in the first place.
The Blues not participating strongly in the January transfer window was something of a surprise, since Conte loves to strengthen his team and his side going for a Premier League title.
Well, all attention to the summer!
