Chelsea goalkeeper Willy Caballero will stay at the club beyond this summer after he signed a one-year contract extension with the Stamford Bridge outfit.

Chelsea confirmed the news of his contract extension earlier on Wednesday.

His previous contract was scheduled to expire this summer but West London giants Chelsea have moved to tie him down for another year.

West Ham United were linked with a free transfer move for Willy Caballero with the Hammers looking for a second choice goalkeeper.

Former Arsenal goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski is the undisputed first choice goalkeeper at West Ham United following his £7m move from Welsh side Swansea City last summer.

The Hammers will have to look elsewhere for a new second choice goalkeeper following the new development concerning Willy Caballero at Chelsea.

Argentine international Caballero has been at Chelsea since the summer of 2017.

The 37-year-old joined Chelsea from fellow Premier League club Manchester City on a free transfer at the start of last season.

He was the second choice behind Thibaut Courtois last season before his transfer to Spanish giants Real Madrid last summer and has maintained that position at Chelsea when Kepa Arrizabalaga made a world-record goalkeeper transfer to Stamford Bridge at the start of the season.
