According to reports, North London giants Arsenal are set to seal the signing of midfielder Lucas Torreira from Sampdoria this week.
Deal set to be sealed this week
The Daily Star, as cited by the Daily Mirror, is claiming that Torreira will have to undergo a medical examination at Arsenal later in the week with a summer move in view.
The same report states that the midfielder will sign a five-year contract with Arsenal once the Gunners activate the player’s £26million contract buyout clause.
Arsenal being overhauled
The Gunners have already completed the signing of veteran Swizz international skipper Stephan Lichtsteiner on a free move from Juventus earlier in the month.
They are looking to upgrade their team following a poor sixth-spot finish under Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger last term to end the club’s final season under the French tactician on a poor note.
The North London club appointed ex-PSG and Sevilla boss Unai Emery as Arsene Wenger’s replacement following a second back-to-back campaign outside the UEFA Champions League spots.
Premier League hunt ongoing
They haven’t won the English Premier League crown since the 2003-04 campaign when Arsene Wenger led them through an unbeaten campaign thanks to the likes of Patrick Vieira and Thierry Henry.
Arsenal lost 3-0 to Manchester City in the Carabao Cup final last season at Wembley Stadium.
