It was crystal clear the Liverpool lacked a solid backline during their 5-0 defeat to rivals Manchester City. The major reason was that the Reds failed to bring in any defender during the summer transfer window, and that has been a big concern for manager Jurgen Klopp a lot.

However, transfer Window Podcast, Ian McGarry claimed that Liverpool will be signing Virgil van Dijk in January. Speaking on the podcast, McGarry said.

According to Daily Star, McGarry of the Transfer Window Podcast claimed that Liverpool would be signing Southampton’s Virgil van Dijk in January.

He also declared that the major reason for the collapse of the transfer was the takeover of Southampton FC by Chinese owners. The Saint’s didn’t need money from his sale to sign new players, and that blocked his transfer away.

Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool were keen on bringing in Van Dijk during the summer transfer window but spoke to the defender before a fee was agreed with his club. Southampton threatened to take lawful actions against Liverpool, and that forced the Merseyside club to release a public apology.

Liverpool were then forced to withdraw their offer for the defender, but they did not end their willingness to sign him. The Reds approached late in the transfer window again but was turned down by Southampton as they stood firmly by their decision not to sell the club captain.
