Marcos Alonso

Spanish La Liga giants Atletico Madrid are eyeing a move for Chelsea defender Marcos Alonso during this summer’s transfer window according to the widespread reports emanating from the media in Spain.

Atletico Madrid have identified Spanish international left-back Alonso as the man for the job of a new left-sided defender.

According to Spanish newspaper AS, Atletico Madrid want to sign Marcos Alonso as a replacement for both Lucas Hernandez and Filipe Luis at left-back.

Atletico Madrid defenders Lucas Hernandez and Filipe Luis will leave the club this summer.

Lucas Hernandez can play either as a left-back or as a centre back and he has already agreed on a club-record transfer to German Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich. He was an important member of the French team that won last summer’s FIFA World Cup tournament in Russia.

On his part, Filipe Luis is expected to leave Atletico Madrid when his contract expires this summer.

Marcos Alonso is no longer the first choice left-back at Chelsea and he could be interested in a return to Spain having previously played for Real Madrid.

The Spaniard has lost his place to Brazilian defender Emerson Palmieri.

Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri opted for Emerson Palmieri over Marcos Alonso for the majority of the final weeks of this season.
