26-year-old Arsenal star not worried by threat from these two attacking pair; vows to improve

Despite having many brilliant attackers fighting for spots in Arsenal’s attack, England international striker Danny Welbeck is not troubled and says competition for a place in the squad only makes him a better player.

The England striker was speaking to popular Arsenal publication Arsenal Player after the team’s 3-0 victory over AFC Bournemouth that saw him net twice.

The former Manchester United star was preferred over Chile international Alexis Sanchez and France international Olivier Giroud by French tactician Arsene Wenger and is not disturbed by the level of competition up front.

Most football fans expected the Welbeck, 26, would be left on the bench when the Chilean returned to the team given he was Arsenal’s top scorer last campaign. The French duo of Lacazette and Olivier Giroud have also been impressive in the attack.

However, the manager has opted to keep the Manchester City target out of the starting lineup for now, and Danny Welbeck took full advantage of his chance, netting two goals and making an assist.

It often happens may be coincidental how a player will improve their game and put in a top class performance when they know that a better player is waiting to take their spot in the team.

This seems to drive them to step up, and this looked to be the case with Welbeck on Saturday as he unluckily failed to get a hat-trick.

If Sanchez, Alex Lacazette, Oliver Giroud and Danny Welbeck can all compete well and bring out the best in each other this term, the Gunners will surely benefit from it.
