Former Liverpool player and manager Phil Thompson has made a surprising choice in his pick for the most important player at the club amidst their rise to the top of the Premier League table.
Phil Thompson picked Englishman James Milner as the most important Liverpool player while he was doing his punditry job on popular English media platform Sky Sports.
According to the Liverpool legend, James Milner is the definition of Mr Consistency and he’s more important than the recent summer signings made by the club.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp was able to bring in players like Alisson Becker, Naby Keita, Fabinho and Xerdan Shaqiri during the summer’s transfer window to add to the world record acquisition of Virgil Van Dijk in the penultimate transfer market in January.
The Reds paid £75m for the Dutch international centre back to secure his transfer from fellow Premier League side Southampton.
It is the world record transfer fee for a defender till date.
All the aforementioned signings have contributed their own respective parts to the Reds’ ascent to the top of the Premier League table though Phil Thompson believes that former Newcastle United, Manchester City and Aston Villa Star James Milner remains the most important player at the club.
