According to reports, Aston Villa have been linked with Gary Cahill, with the Chelsea defender expected to leave in January because of lack of enough playing time under Maurizio Sarri, but Dean Smith looks likely to be met with disappointment if the article from Correiro Dello Sport is anything to go by.
New reports suggest AC Milan have reportedly been offered Cahill to solve their respective injury crisis. The Serie A giants are currently without Alessio Romagnoli, Mattia Caldara and Mateo Musacchio and find themselves left with Cristián Zapata and Stefan Simic.
The Italian giants are in the market for signing a new centre-back and could look to Cahill as a temporary option.
It’s hard to see the Chelsea man turning down Milan for Villa, even if he’s a former player, so Smith might have to turn his attention elsewhere.
The premier league side also have an injury ridden team has only James Chester and Axel Tuanzebe being the only natural centre-backs available for selection.
Tommy Elphick was loaned out to Hull City earlier in the season and now Chester is an injury doubt ahead of Sunday’s meeting with Birmingham City.
Villa are definitely going to sign a new central defender in January, but it may not be Cahill. Even if the Chelsea man was guaranteed first-team football at his old club, he’s sure to be interested with offers from Premier League sides and top-flight outings across Europe.
