According to a report by The Sun, Chelsea could be set to let goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois leave for nothing when his deal expires later in 2019 rather than sell him to La Liga giant Real Madrid next summer.
Ordinarily, Chelsea will hope to negotiate new contract terms and agree on a long-term deal with the Belgium international to extend his stay at the club.
However, with no contract talks ongoing, as reported, the 25-year-old safe hand could run down his existing contract and decide to leave the club for a return to Madrid.
The Chelsea goalkeeper enjoyed a brilliant three-year loan spell with Spanish la Liga club Atletico Madrid between 2011 and 2014, playing 154 matches for the Spanish side and winning the Spanish La Liga title as well as enjoying a good run to the UEFA Champions League final back in 2014.
The goalkeeper has continued that good run of success with two English Premier League titles in three seasons at Stamford Bridge, and having firmly sealed himself as one of the top goalie in Europe with Chelsea, it would be a big loss for the Blues to see the shot-stopper leave for any amount, talk less of for nothing.
We’ll wait and see how the situation will play out as manager Antonio Conte will hope to have him in goal for a foreseeable future.
