Gabon striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has snubbed a contract extension with German Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund, fuelling rumour that a January transfer to Chelsea could materialize according to Calciomercato.

The 28-years-old has made no secret of his intent to leave the Bundesliga side, particularly over the recently shut summer. A switch failed to materialize during the window as AC Milan’s interest was continuously turned down by Dortmund.

AC Milan’s Director of Sport Massimo Mirabelli, is a long-term admirer of the Gabonese but failed in his efforts to get Borussia Dortmund to sell their star striker. Instead, the Club director, focus his efforts on signing Nikola Kalinic. The Gabon Captain however, felt AC Milan could have done a lot more.

With Premier League Champions Chelsea seeing the exit of Spaniard Diego Costa to Atletico Madrid, and an injury to Alvaro Morata, rumour is increasing for a winter move for Aubameyang. It is clear the heavy load of matches during the Christmas period will push Blues strike force to the very limits with any realistic opportunity of winning the English Premier League or UEFA Champions League needing reinforcements, particularly in the attacking department.

Aubameyang has already netted 13 goals in all competitions this campaign for Borussia Dortmund. With this record, it makes the prospect of bringing in a striker with such a prolific record, ever more tempting for Chelsea.
