Facts from Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas have emerged that Chelsea passed on a chance to sign the Ligue 1 side’s 25-year-old attacking midfielder Nabil Fekir after the deal with Liverpool for the player’s signature collapsed.

The French international midfielder who was highly sought after by Liverpool before the beginning of the new season saw his dreams of moving to Anfield crash after the Merseyside club tried to restructure their previously agreed deal with Lyon following concerns about his medicals. This obviously did not go down well with the Lyon officials who felt they already had a gentlemanly agreement with the Reds for the World cup winner’s signature.

Chelsea’s rumoured interest in the star midfielder became significantly louder after the Liverpool deal collapsed, Aulas has however disclosed that they met and spoke with Chelsea Football Club representatives, and they had no interest at all in him.

Fekir’s form last season for UEFA Champions League bound Lyon saw him finding the back of the net 18 times and providing eight assists in 30 league appearances. In a recent press conference, Lyon boss Bruno Genesio addressed the player’s disappointment stating that

‘ If he continues his form from last season, there is no doubt that other teams, perhaps even Liverpool rivals, will be back in for him.’

The Lyon captain has only appeared once for his team this season as he struggles to shake off the disappointment of not making his dream move to Liverpool.
