Former Liverpool midfielder Dietmar Hamman believes that Premier League giants Liverpool are facing German champions Bayern Munich at the wrong time ahead of their Champions League second leg last 16 clash at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday night.
Dietmar Hamman played for both Liverpool and Bayern Munich during an illustrious playing career.
The ex-German international star won the Champions League with Liverpool in 2005.
Dietmar Hamman was part of the Liverpool side that came from three goals down to beat Italian Serie A giants AC Milan on penalties in Istanbul after both teams played out a 3-3 draw.
He told the Liverpool Echo that Liverpool are facing Bayern Munich at the wrong time after the Bavarian giants secured the top spot on the German Bundesliga table with the 6-0 thrashing of VFL Wolfsburg in their league meeting at the weekend.
Bayern Munich are slight favourites ahead of the second leg after they battled to a goalless draw with the Reds at Anfield in their first leg meeting.
Liverpool prepared for the tough trip to Germany by beating Burnley 4-2 to keep their title hopes alive in the Premier League.
The Reds came from a goal down to beat the Clarets with two goals apiece from Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino.

It is therefore expected that Manuela Zinsberger will help the Arsenal ladies deliver a resounding and commanding season with her quality and vast experience.
In her reaction to joining the North London outfit, Manuela Zinsberger expressed her feelings, describing it as amazing and she vows to do her best to help the team.

Revealed: Bayern Target Will Sign New Chelsea Deal On One Condition
Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi has performed a remarkable U-turn on his decision and he’s ready to sign a new contract at the club.
The latest development was confirmed by Goal who claimed that he has given his condition for a contract extension at Chelsea.
It was revealed that the young English winger wants assurances from Chelsea officials that he would be the man to replace the outgoing Eden Hazard at the club before he can sign a new contract.
German Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich tried to sign him during the winter transfer window but Chelsea held firm in their resolve to keep their Academy player at the club.
Bayern failed with several bids while the player also tried and failed to force through a move to the Bavarian giants via a transfer request.
The Germans are likely to come back with another bid this summer having failed with as much as five bids in January.
Other European sides like Borussia Dortmund, Liverpool and Manchester United have also been mentioned as his suitors.
Callum Hudson-Odoi is presently recuperating from a long-term injury sustained in April and he’s expected to be out until the last few months of the year with the season-ending injury.
United contact Bundesliga outfit for star forward
The English Premier League outfit Man United are reported to have contacted German Bundesliga outfit Bayern Munich for the signature of their star forward Robert Lewandowski ahead of the summer transfer window.
It is reported that the Red Devils have been able to make the fast move after learning that Robert Lewandowski has put on holds talks of his contract renewal which hints that he could be thinking of leaving the club anytime soon.
The Polish striker has just two years left to the end of his contract with Bayern Munich and this has been identified as the best time to reach out to him because the Bundesliga side will seek to cash in on him than lose him for free.
The quality of Robert Lewandowski is not in doubt which is the reason why the Red Devils are considering landing him, not minding his age.
However, Robert Lewandowski has been on the Red Devils’ wish list for a long time as their legendary manager Alex Ferguson severally indicated interest in the star player wheel he was in charge at the Old Trafford.
With Marcus Rashford reported to be preparing to leave the Old Trafford, Robert Lewandowski could be a perfect replacement.
Deal On: Bayern To Renew Interest In Chelsea Winger
German champions Bayern Munich will reportedly revive their interest in young Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi ahead of this summer’s transfer window.
This is according to the publication from The Sun which claimed that the Bavarian giants have been encouraged with the progress of the player as he works his way back to fitness from injury.
Callum Hudson-Odoi was the top transfer target for Bayern Munich during the winter transfer window but Chelsea remained resolute in their bid not to let one of their best young players leave the club.
The player also handed in a transfer request to force through a transfer to Bayern Munich only for it to be rejected on arrival.
Callum Hudson-Odoi has a year left on his Chelsea contract and the West Londoners are desperate to hand him fresh terms amidst the strong interest from the likes of Bayern Munich.
Other European sides like Borussia Dortmund, Manchester United and Liverpool have all been linked with him.

Deal On!!! Arsenal get good transfer news from Munich
Emerging reports from the German Bundesliga outfit Bayern Munch has given the North London outfit Arsenal a major lift ahead of the coming summer transfer window.
It is reported that the 2-year loan spell of Colombia international James Rodriguez would be coming to an end in Germany by June later this year and the tendency of returning to his parent club is unknown.
The report claims that Bayern Munich had the opportunity to hand James Rodriguez a permanent deal that will have him remain but they have turned down the opportunity.
However, the Bundesliga giants are the only club standing in the way of the North London side from clinching the signature of James Rodriguez which means they will now have a free ride to the table for discussions.
It is reported that James Rodriguez is not interested in returning back to his parent’s club Real Madrid as he does not wish to work under manager Zinedine Zidane because of their sour relationship.
However, it is now left to the Gunnera team to step forward with the right offer to be able to land their dream transfer as soon as the summer window is opened.
Meanwhile, there are fears that the Gunners team will not be able to meet with the asking price for James Rodriguez as manager Unai Emery will only be handed £40 million for the market.
Time Up: Chelsea Target Needs To Leave Bayern
Bayern Munich forward James Rodriguez has been told to leave the club when the transfer window reopens in summer.
According to Bayern Munich legend Stefan Effenberg, it’s the right time for James Rodriguez to leave the Bavarian giants in search of greener pastures.
In his column with T-Online, the former Bayern Munich midfielder said that the Colombian international star has to leave Bayern Munich to have fun while playing football again.
James Rodriguez is on a two-year loan spell at Bayern Munich from Spanish La Liga giants Real Madrid and that loan contract will expire at the end of this season.
The Real Madrid loanee has completed 90 minutes on just three occasions this season as he has failed to convince Bayern Munich manager Niko Kovac that he deserves more playing time at the Allianz Arena.
Bayern Munich are not willing to take up the option of signing him permanently at the end of his loan spell and he’s expected to return to parent club Real Madrid this summer.
James Rodriguez has been linked with a transfer to the Premier League with clubs like Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea.
The Blues have serious doubts over star player Eden Hazard and James Rodriguez could represent a proven replacement for him if he leaves Stamford Bridge this summer though Chelsea will have to scale through the two-window ban handed to them by FIFA before any player can be signed.
Ex-Chelsea Star Backs Mourinho For Bayern Job
Former Chelsea midfielder Michael Ballack has backed Jose Mourinho for the Bayern Munich job.
In his latest interview monitored by popular media outlet Goal, ex-German international Ballack said that Mourinho would be the perfect man for the Bayern Munich managerial role.
Former Chelsea and Manchester United boss Mourinho has been linked to the Bayern job as a replacement for current boss Niko Kovac who’s under serious pressure to keep his job.
Niko Kovac has struggled to impress as the manager of the Bavarian giants since he took the job at the start of this summer.
His Bayern Munich team is in a two-way fight for the German Bundesliga title with Borussia Dortmund.
At the end of last year, Dortmund had a nine-point lead over his Bayern team but Niko Kovac has been able to claw that deficit back.
Bayern have a one-point lead at the top of the table presently with five games to go.
The Bavarian giants can still win the domestic double as they are still in the German Cup.
The biggest disappointment of the Niko Kovac reign at Bayern Munich was the Bavarian giants’ inglorious exit in the Champions League at the hands of Premier League leaders Liverpool.
The Reds emerged victorious in their last 16 tie via a 3-1 aggregate win.
Bayern Urged To Sign In-form Chelsea Winger
Bayern Munich legend Giovanni Elber has called on his former club to make a move for young Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi when the transfer window reopens in summer.
The former Bayern Munich striker told popular media outlet Goal that the Bavarian giants must make the call to sign Callum Hudson-Odoi ahead of other major European clubs like Real Madrid and Barcelona.
German champions Bayern Munich tried and failed to sign Hudson-Odoi during the winter transfer window despite making five separate bids for him.
Chelsea rejected their bids in January with the Blues determined not to let the recently capped England international leave the club.
Callum Hudson-Odoi also tried to force the move to Bayern Munich but his transfer request was rejected by Chelsea officials.
The 18-year-old has been largely frustrated with the lack of playing time at Chelsea this season having forced his way into the Blues first team during preseason.
Giovanni Elber told reporters that Bayern Munich have to do everything to sign the young Blues’ winger before adding that the Bavarian giants won’t know if Hudson-Odoi would be a hit or not if they don’t take a chance on him.
Callum Hudson-Odoi has generally made positive impact each time he was given a chance this season.
Liverpool Backed For Champions League Glory After Bayern Elimination
Former Bayern Munich midfielder Lothar Matthaus has revealed that his personal favourite for the Champions League title this season is Liverpool.
In his interview with Goal, the Bayern Munich legend was very impressed with the way the Reds dispatched his former club during their last 16 tie as he tipped them for glory ahead of favourites like Manchester City, Juventus and Barcelona.
Lothar Matthaus also discussed the dwindling fortunes of German teams on the continent.
Only Eintracht Frankfurt qualified for the quarterfinals of the Europa League while no team made it to the last eight of the Champions League.
German champions Bayern Munich had played a creditable goalless draw away to Liverpool in the first leg of their last 16 tie only for them to lose 3-1 at home to the Reds in their second leg meeting at the Allianz Arena.
Borussia Dortmund lost the first leg of their Champions League last 16 tie 3-0 away from home to Premier League giants Tottenham Hotspur before losing 1-0 at home for a 4-0 aggregate win for Spurs.
Schalke 04 suffered a great deal at the hands of Premier League champions Manchester City in their last 16 tie after they were on the receiving end of a 7-0 away defeat to the Citizens and a 10-2 aggregate loss.
Bayern Had To Spend After Liverpool Defeat
Bayern Munich legend Lothar Matthaus has leapt to the defence of his former club after they paid a club-record fee for Lucas Hernandez.
The Bavarian giants had confirmed that Lucas Hernandez will be joining the club from Spanish La Liga giants Atletico Madrid in the summer.
The transfer for the French international defender makes it the most expensive in the illustrious history of Bayern Munich.
The German champions signed the Atletico Madrid utility defender for €80m which is almost twice the previous record held by compatriot Corentin Tolisso.
Frenchman Tolisso signed for the Bavarian giants in a deal reported to be around €41m.
Lothar Matthaus defended the expensive spending from Bayern Munich in his latest interview monitored by popular media portal Goal.
According to him, the Bayern hierarchy realised that they had to spend to improve the squad after they were outclassed by Premier League giants Liverpool in their last 16 tie in the Champions League.
Bayern had secured a valuable goalless draw away from home in the first leg of their last 16 encounter in the competition before they were beaten 3-1 in the return leg by the Merseysiders in front of their home fans.
Senegalese international Sadio Mane was the thorn in Bayern’s flesh after he scored two goals to hand his side a quarterfinal berth via a 3-1 aggregate win.
