Former Barcelona defender Carles Puyol is certain that the Catalans will face a tough semifinal clash with Premier League giants Liverpool in the Champions League.
The Barcelona legend talked about the tough Liverpool tie during an exclusive interview with popular media portal Goal.
According to him, Jurgen Klopp and his players will pose a big problem to the Catalan giants’ quest to win the treble this season.
Barcelona are in the hunt for three trophies namely the Spanish La Liga, the Spanish Copa Del Rey and the Champions League.
The Spanish champions sealed a last four meeting with Liverpool with an emphatic 4-0 aggregate victory over another English club, Manchester United.
The Catalans had earlier won 1-0 at Old Trafford through a Luke Shaw own goal before the Red Devils were beaten convincingly in their second leg clash on Tuesday night.
Barcelona thrashed Manchester United 3-0 courtesy a brace from star player Lionel Messi who has now scored 10 Champions League goals.
The Barcelona skipper is the topscorer in the competition with 10 goals.
Barcelona are also on course to win a second successive league title with just three wins needed from their remaining six matches.
They will also play Valencia in the Copa Del Rey final.
Deal On: Liverpool Star On Barcelona Striker Shortlist
Liverpool striker Divock Origi is reportedly on the striker shortlist at Spanish champions Barcelona during this summer’s transfer window.
This is according to the publication from Spanish media outlet Mundo Deportivo which revealed that Belgian international Origi is on a two-man striker shortlist at Barcelona.
The Nou Camp giants want to sign a new striker this summer and they are on the trail of Divock Origi as a result.
It was also revealed that Tottenham Hotspur striker Fernando Llorente is also on the striker shortlist.
Divock Origi has been able to revive his career at Liverpool after contributing immensely to their quest for major honours in the Champions League and the Premier League.
Belgian international Origi scored the crucial winning goal in league games against Everton and Newcastle United only for the Reds to lose the Premier League title to defending champions Manchester City on the final day of the season.
Divock Origi and Liverpool lost the league title by a point after finishing with 97 points from 38 games.
On their part, Manchester City finished the season with 98 points.
Origi also made a telling contribution for Liverpool during the Champions League semifinal tie with Barcelona.
He scored two goals for the Reds in their 4-0 win over Barcelona thereby turning around the 3-0 first leg deficit suffered in the first leg.
Liverpool qualified for the Champions League final via a 4-3 aggregate victory over Barcelona.
No Interest: Barcelona Deny €25m Bid For Liverpool Target
Spanish La Liga giants Barcelona have denied reports claiming that they have made a bid for Celta Vigo striker Maxi Gomez.
This is according to the specific publication from popular Spanish news portal Mundo Deportivo which claimed that Barcelona have not made an official bid for the hugely talented Maxi Gomez.
Spanish striker Maxi Gomez has been attracting the interest of several clubs after a very good season with Celta Vigo this season.
Apart from Barcelona, Liverpool and Real Madrid have also been linked with a summer transfer for him.
Earlier reports had said that Barcelona made a €25m bid for Maxi Gomez but those reports have been debunked by the Catalan giants.
Maxi Gomez scored 13 goals and also weighed in with five assists in 35 games during the just concluded Spanish La Liga season.
Barcelona are looking for a new striker and Maxi Gomez has been mooted as a possible transfer addition to the Catalan outfit who are sure the striker is needed at the Nou Camp.
The aforementioned publication from Mundo Deportivo revealed that Celta Vigo will only entertain offers of at least €50m for one of their prized assets.
Uruguayan international striker Maxi Gomez was instrumental to how Celta Vigo were able to survive relegation at the end of the season.
United shift focus to Barcelona for De Gea’s replacement
The English Premier League outfit is yet to convince Spanish goalkeeper David De Gea into staying at the club ahead of the coming season with his contract already running out.
The demand of the former Atletico stopper has not been met by the Red Devils and that is causing a delay in knowing the fate of the club for the coming season.
However, the latest report reveals that Man United are already considering a move for Spanish La Liga outfit Barcelona stopper Jasper Cillessen should David De Gea fails to commit his future.
Jasper Cillessen is a known figure in Europe and has already decided to leave Barcelona at the end of the season as he has not been favored for selection. So far, the stopper has been able to land just 30 appearances across three seasons after losing his first-choice spot to Marc-Ander ter Stegen.
The Barcelona stopper has made it clear that he is ready for a move where he would secure the first-team football but that will happen after he goes to enjoy his holiday.
Meanwhile, Jasper Cillessen is reported to be close to agreeing on a deal with Benfica but Man United could still win the race if they step forward with a good offer.
Expensive Flop: Ex-Liverpool Star Transfer-listed At Barcelona
Barcelona midfielder Philippe Coutinho has been put up for sale by the club according to the latest reports emanating from the Italian media.
Brazilian international Coutinho has failed to fulfill his potentials at Barcelona in the last 18 months and he could be on his way out of the club this summer.
According to the report from Calciomercato, the former Liverpool player has been transfer-listed at Barcelona with the Spaniards keen to recoup the majority of their transfer fee on him.
Barcelona have already lined up a big money move for Atletico Madrid star Antoine Griezmann and the French international is likely to replace Philippe Coutinho at the club.
The Spanish La Liga champions signed Coutinho from Liverpool in January 2018 after the player forced through a move after the Reds were reluctant to let him leave the club.
Liverpool were said to have been paid an initial transfer fee of £116m which will increase based on add-ons.
The transfer made Coutinho the third most expensive player behind Neymar and Kylian Mbappe, both players are from French champions Paris Saint Germain (PSG).
The aforementioned publication also revealed that Barcelona might struggle to find a buyer for Coutinho though he has been linked with clubs like Manchester United, Chelsea and PSG.
Barcelona to storm Old Trafford for major Madrid upset
Emerging reports claim that Spanish La Liga outfit Barcelona are set to hijack the deal for Man United midfielder Paul Pogba who has been linked to their El Classico rivals Real Madrid.
It is no longer news that the World Cup winner is keen to leave the Old Trafford at the end of the season, having made a come-get-me plea to Real Madrid by stating that he was to play under manager Zinedine Zidane.
The Spanish capital team are also reported to have launched an “Operation Pogba” with manager Zinedine Zidane asking the club to move in for him.
However, Barcelona who are also interested in the signature of the former Juventus star are reportedly planning to hijack the deal by stepping forward with a £130 million offer with the hope that it would be considered by Man United.
Barcelona will see Paul Pogba as that replacement for Ivan Rakitic who is linked with a move away from the club in the coming summer transfer window.
It is therefore yet to be seen if Paul Pogba will dump his interest to play under Zinedine Zidane or not as Real Madrid will also make efforts to step forward with a better offer.
Meanwhile, United are not ready to part ways with Paul Pogba but they might be forced to do that, rather than lose him on loan.
Deal Close: Barcelona Edge Closer To Signing Liverpool Target
Spanish La Liga giants Barcelona are reportedly closing in on the signing of highly-rated Ajax Amsterdam defender Matthijs De Ligt ahead of the transfer window this summer.
This is according to the publication from the stables of popular media outlet Goal which claimed that an official announcement of his transfer is expected in the coming days.
It was revealed that a Barcelona contingent of Pep Segura, former player Eric Abidal, Oriol Grau and Ramon Planas met with the player’s agent Mino Raiola on April 12 in Monte Carlo.
Barcelona are expected to make an announcement after the end of the Dutch Eredivisie season this week.
The last set of Eredivisie games this season will take place on Wednesday evening with De Ligt and Ajax Amsterdam going for the league title.
Ajax is expected to be crowned champions on Wednesday night at the expense of rivals PSV Eindhoven.
They have a three-point lead at the top of the table with just a game left.
The Champions League semifinalists need just a point to wrap up the league title which will complete a domestic double having already bagged the Dutch Cup via the 4-0 thumping of Willem 11 earlier this month.
Barcelona have already signed De Ligt’s friend and club teammate Frenkie De Jong who signed for the club in January and he’s expected to join his new teammates this summer.
Matthijs De Ligt has been heavily linked with major European sides like Manchester City, Manchester United, Juventus and Liverpool apart from Barcelona.
Big Injury: Ex-Liverpool Star Doubtful For Spanish Copa Del Rey Final
Barcelona midfielder Philippe Coutinho is a big doubt for the Spanish champions ahead of their Copa Del Rey final clash with Valencia.
The former Liverpool player might miss that game after he suffered a thigh injury in the league win over Getafe.
The win over Champions League chasers Getafe came at a big cost following the injury to Philippe Coutinho.
The Brazilian international was replaced by Nelson Semedo after 69 minutes as a result of the injury and he’s now a big doubt for the Copa Del Rey final meeting with Valencia on May 25.
After the game which Barcelona won 2-0, the Spanish La Liga champions confirmed that Coutinho will miss the next ten days as a result of the injury.
He’s expected to be fit for the Valencia game later this month if the player does not suffer a setback in his recovery.
Coutinho has not enjoyed a good season for Barcelona in his first full campaign and the latest development has further compounded his woes at the club.
The player moved from Liverpool to Barcelona at the start of last season in a deal reported to be around £116m but he has failed to live up to that hefty transfer fee.
Liverpool scored 41 goals and also provided 37 assists in 152 appearances for Liverpool in the Premier League before moving to Barcelona where he has scored 18 goals and provided eight assists in 68 La Liga games.
Why Barcelona’s interest in Lacazette is a joke
It has been reported that Spanish La Liga outfit Barcelona are keen on the signature of North London outfit Arsenal striker Alexandre Lacazette ahead of the summer transfer window.
This is after a promising season by the player who has been in form especially in the Europa League as the Spanish side hope to land a new No.9 in the team.
The response from Alexandre Lacazette is well-deserved; having stated that he is flattered by the interest without giving consent or not to the speculations.
However, suggestions are that there is no way the former Lyon striker will seek any move away from the Emirates Stadium in this current season despite the inability to secure qualification to the Champions League.
While there is still hope of a Champions League football next season, should the Unai Emery team secure a win in the Europa League finals, the friendship between the French striker and the Gabon international striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is something that s being cherished at the moment and will not be tampered with by a move away.
However, Lacazette has already hinted that his team will be looking forward to challenging the English Premier League next season with more goals.
Permanent Scar: Barcelona Boss Still Haunted By Liverpool Collapse
Barcelona manager Ernesto Valverde has admitted that he’s struggling to get the humiliating Liverpool defeat out of his system ahead of the Spanish La Liga clash with Getafe on Sunday evening.
Valverde and his Barcelona players were on the receiving end of a 4-0 thrashing at the hands of Premier League giants Liverpool in the second leg of their Champions League semifinal tie.
The second leg thrashing rendered the 3-0 lead from the first leg useless as Barcelona crashed out of the competition via a 4-3 aggregate defeat.
Divock Origi and Georginio Wijnaldum were the heroes for Liverpool after they both scored two goals each to lead the Reds to victory.
Valverde spoke extensively about that defeat during his pre-match press conference ahead of the league game with Champions League chasers Getafe at home.
According to him, it would be difficult for him to motivate his players for the Getafe game after the disappointments of the Champions League clash at Liverpool on Tuesday night.
Barcelona were chasing a treble before the Liverpool game but the Catalan giants can still win a domestic double after their Champions League exit.
Barcelona have already won the Spanish La Liga this season and they could add the Copa Del Rey when they face Valencia in the final on May 25.
Deal In Limbo: Barcelona Transfer For De Ligt Held Up For THIS Reason
Spanish champions Barcelona are reportedly having difficulties in their quest to get a deal over the line for Ajax Amsterdam defender Matthijs De Ligt.
This is according to the publication from Spanish newspaper AS which claimed that Barcelona have reached a snag in the quest to sign the aforementioned De Ligt.
The Spanish champions are not the only ones interested in the Dutch international centre-back with clubs like Manchester City and Liverpool also keen on a transfer for him.
Liverpool legend and former Reds defender Jamie Carragher recently urged his former club to go all out to sign De Ligt who captained a youthful Ajax side to the Champions League semifinal before they were eliminated in surprising fashion by Tottenham Hotspur.
According to him, De Ligt would be the perfect partner for the impressive Virgil Van Dijk.
Matthijs De Ligt and Virgil Van Dijk have formed a centre back partnership with the Dutch national team and Carragher believes the same can be replicated at Liverpool but the Reds have to deal with Barcelona.
According to the aforementioned report from AS, the De Ligt transfer to Barcelona has been held up by the financial demands from his agent Mino Raiola who has a notoriety for being a tough customer in the transfer window.
