Matthijs De Ligt

Five-time European champions Barcelona have reportedly re-opened talks over the potential signing of highly rated Ajax Amsterdam defender Matthijs De Ligt this summer.

This is according to the publication from the stables of popular media channel ESPN which claimed that Barcelona have resurrected talks for the hugely talented player in the bid to sign him from under the noses of French Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint Germain (PSG).

The French champions are the favourites to sign De Ligt this summer having usurped Barcelona in the race to sign the player that could cost around £75m to secure his transfer from Dutch giants Ajax Amsterdam.

Barcelona had made an offer for him which was bettered by both PSG and Manchester United.

The Catalan giants were reluctant to improve on their offer but recent events have led to a change of heart on their part with the Spanish champions now willing to improve their offer for the 19-year-old.

Matthijs De Ligt is one of the most sought-after players on the transfer window following his heroics for the Dutch national team and Ajax Amsterdam during the just concluded season.

He captained Ajax Amsterdam to two major trophies before helping the Netherlands to the Nations League final before they were beaten 1-0 by hosts Portugal in their final clash on Sunday night.
