According to reports, La Liga heavyweights Barcelona made an attempt to bring Man United top target Antoine Griezmann over to Camp Nou during the summer transfer window, but Atletico Madrid rejected their £124million bid for the player.

Griezmann is widely regarded as one of the best players in the continent at the moment following his impressive performances at Atletico Madrid in recent years. Despite the attention he has attracted for himself, he decided to stay in the Spanish capital for this term.

If Atletico had allowed him leave during the window, their summer transfer ban meant they won’t have been able to sign a replacement for him. Instead, the France international ended up signing a new deal with an increased buy-out clause.

But as Barcelona sold Neymar to PSG, it is understood that the Frenchman emerged as one of their major targets meant to replace Neymar in the attack. But Atletico Madrid held firm to their star player and refused accepting the £124m offered from the Catalan giants.

The Frenchman has been strongly linked with Manchester United before he put pen on paper for a new deal at Atletico, but there are still speculations that the move to Old Trafford will be actualised next summer.

The talented player has scored 84 times in 163 appearances for his current side, and looks likely to leave Atletico Madris.
