Arsenal manager told to apologise to opposition player after City defeat

Premier League Legend Alan Shearer feels that Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger should apologise to Manchester City forward Raheem Sterling.

The City man was accused of diving by Wenger after the Gunners’ loss to rivals Manchester City on Sunday.

The England international forward hit the floor under a barge from Arsenal defender Nacho Monreal after half-time of the match at the Etihad Stadium and referee Michael Oliver didn’t hesitate to give a penalty, offering Argentine Sergio Aguero a gilt-edged chance to separate the teams

But Arsene Wenger told BBC Sport that Raheem Sterling’s proficiency at diving tricked the referee into giving the spot kick.

Later in the evening, Alan Shearer slammed the French tactician for suggesting that the tackle was not a foul.

The winger, admittedly, has a simulation reputation, but it did indeed look like a legitimate penalty as Monreal only had his eyes for Sterlin and clumsily hacked him down.

Shearer said, “I {Shearer] think he [Arsene Wenger] owes [Raheem} Sterling an apology.”

Manchester City’s 3-1 win over the North London club, followed by Chelsea’s victory against Manchester United later in the afternoon, gives Guardiola’s team an eight-point lead atop the English Premier League log and quite a few analysts already believe that the Premier League title race is a foregone issue.
