According to reports, Arsenal have made a shock offer to complete the switch of Barcelona shot-stopper Marc-Andre ter Stegen to replace the ageing Premier League Legend Petr Cech.
Arsenal could do with reinforcement in between the sticks as the ex Chelsea goalkeeper looks past his very best, with Marc-Andre ter Stegen showing himself to be one of the world’s finest goalkeepers.
As per Don Balon, the Gunners are joined by French Ligue 1 side Paris Saint-Germain and Italian Serie A Champions Juventus in making a bid for the German, who has about £158million buyout clause in his Barcelona deal.
The same publication also states categorically that the Catalan side do not want to cash in on one of their most important figures, and fans will have to wait to see if clubs have come close to paying his release clause fee.
That would make the Germany international by far the most expensive shot-stopper of all time, and seems a move out of character for the Gunners.
Arsene Wenger’s team have rarely spent so much on goalkeepers during the French tactician’s reign, and indeed hardly spent so much at all even on attackers.
Still, the transfer market is changing by the day, and Arsene Wenger will certainly have to consider a long-term replacement for Premier League legend Petr Cech before long, with the Czech international, now 35-year-old without a doubt one of the best to play in the English Premier League but he is no longer at that level he was during his time at Stamford Bridge.
