According to Italian media reports, Premier League giant Arsenal aren’t close to a swoop to land Sampdoria star Lucas Torreira.
Arsenal ready to battle rival
Italian publication Il Mattino, as cited by website Sport Witness, is claiming that Arsenal face stiff competition from Napoli in the Uruguayan international midfielder.
The same report says that the Italian side aren’t ready to offload the 22-year-old for anything less than his contract buyout clause.
As per the same report, the release clause presently stands at €25million and the Gunners would have to pay the asking price to force the Serie A side to offload the midfielder.
The midfielder netted four goals and created one assist in 36 matches in the Italian Serie A last campaign to further build on his promising reputation.
Arsenal seek reinforcement
The Gunners haven’t qualified for the UEFA Champions League in the last two campaigns to culminate in manager Arsene Wenger’s resignation.
The North Londoners have appointed former Sevilla and Paris Saint-Germain boss Unai Emery as Wenger’s successor at the Emirates.
The Gunners have only signed experienced Switzerland defender Stephan Lichtsteiner for free from Champions Juventus in the summer window so far.
Arsenal haven’t won the English topflight title since 2004 league season and have regressed in the last decade or so.
