Premier League giant Arsenal have told La Liga side FC Barcelona to cough out £55million for Germany international Mesut Ozil after the Blaugrana asked about the availability of Ozil late on deadline day, according to media reports in Spain.

Spanish media outfit Cadena COPE report that the La Liga side are now considering a transfer for the German as Merseysiders Liverpool continue to stand firm over Brazilian Philippe Coutinho’s availability.

Mesut Ozil has less than 12 months left on his current Arsenal contract with the Gunners and would be available for free at the end of the current League season.

In August, it was reported that the former Real Madrid midfield maestro was close to renewing his contract with Arsenal, believed to be worth £225,000 weekly.

FC Barcelona are keen on strengthening their midfield options before the Spanish La Liga transfer deadline closes midnight on Friday and had severally in the summer tried to Lure Coutinho from Anfield to Camp Nou.

But e FC Barcelona are now forced to seek alternative options as the Reds are refusing to consider offers for the Brazil international midfield maestro.

Barcelona also tried to sign Tottenham’s Andre Gomes on a season long loan last night as Spurs wanted to keep the Portuguese as a squad player.
