Arsenal is plotting an audacious move for Bayern Munich defender Jerome Boateng, according to reports.
The Gunners are believed to be keen on adding defensive reinforcements this summer, and as identified the German defender as one of their defensive targets but will have to battle Tottenham Hotspur who are also said to be interested in the defender.
Reports in TransferMarketWeb claim that Gunners will have to beat Spurs to Boateng’s signature this summer, with strong indications that Mauricio Pochettino wants the top defender.
The 28-year-old has been a solid figure at Bayern Munich since his move from Manchester City in 2011, due to inconsistent displays but has gone on to become of the best defenders in Europe due to his heroics in the Bundesliga and the German national team.
Arsene Wenger is a long-term admirer of Boateng’s abilities since his days at the Etihad but could not sign him as Manchester City did not want sell the defender to a rival. The French boss has retained his interest in the defender and will attempt to sign him this summer despite competition from Spurs.
Despite his prior contributions to Bayern, Boateng has seen his playing time reduced under Carlo Ancelotti, and could fancy a move for better opportunities.
