The NBA league office did not hesitate to issue discipline following Sunday night’s ugly incident. The league announced that Oklahoma City Thunder guard Ajay Mitchell and Washington Wizards forward Justin Champagnie have each been suspended for one game without pay for their roles in an on-court altercation.
The Incident
The suspension stems from a physical confrontation that occurred during the third quarter of the Thunder-Wizards matchup. After a hard foul under the basket, the two players exchanged words before escalating into a shoving match that quickly drew in teammates and coaches from both sides. Officials were forced to stop the game for several minutes to separate the players and review the monitor, ultimately resulting in double ejections. Both players will serve their respective suspensions during their team’s next scheduled games.
