The Women’s Bracket Tightens

Powerhouses Prevail: Michigan, LSU, UNC, and TCU Secure Sweet 16 Berths

The Road to the Final Four grew significantly steeper on Sunday as the second round of the Women’s NCAA Tournament concluded with a quartet of decisive victories. While the men’s side saw chaos, the women’s bracket saw the “blue bloods” flex their muscles, with Michigan, LSU, North Carolina, and TCU all punching their tickets to the Sweet 16.

The most dominant performance of the afternoon came from Baton Rouge. Defending champion LSU showed no signs of championship fatigue, dismantling their opponents with a defensive masterclass that forced 22 turnovers. Kim Mulkey’s squad played with a chip on their shoulder, led by a double-double performance that reminded the nation why the Tigers remain the team to beat. “We aren’t looking at the name on the jersey,” Mulkey noted. “We’re looking at the trophy.”

In contrast, the drama was highest in Fort Worth. TCU, a program that has seen a meteoric rise this season, survived a literal last-second scare. Leading by only two points, the Horned Frogs executed a perfect “ice” defense on the perimeter, forcing a contested three-pointer that fell short. The victory marks a historic milestone for the program, reaching the Sweet 16 for the first time in over a decade.

Meanwhile, Michigan and North Carolina relied on veteran composure. The Wolverines overcame a double-digit halftime deficit by leaning on their senior guard play, eventually pulling away in the fourth quarter. UNC utilized a balanced scoring attack, with four starters reaching double figures, proving that depth is the ultimate weapon in March.

As the field narrows, the matchups for the Sweet 16 are now set, promising a collision of tactical brilliance and raw athletic talent. The giants are still standing, but as Iowa showed on the men’s side, no one is safe.
