Former Manchester United captain Gary Neville has labelled the club’s Belgian midfielder as pathetic after he denied his side all three points in their 1-1 away draw at Everton.
Fellaini, who had come on as a substitute to preserve United’s 1-0 lead, gave away a late penalty after he tripped Senegalese midfielder Idrissa Gueye in the box thereby handing English left-back Leighton Baines the chance to equalise from the spot for the Toffees and earn a share of the spoils for Ronald Koeman’s side.
Gary Neville, who is a former Valencia and England coach, was speaking during popular media outlet Sky Sports’ coverage of the game. He said: “It’s just rubbish from Fellaini.”
“It’s obvious – as soon as you commit yourself in the box you’re in danger of giving a penalty away. It’s garbage from him.
“It is really pathetic from such an experienced player. He’s come on to actually see a game out. No composure and it was obvious what was coming, you could see it a mile off.” he concluded.
Manchester United and Jose Mourinho have moved further away from the chasing pack courtesy of that disappointing draw having won just one of their last eight games in the league.
