Chelsea safe hand Thibaut Courtois has been the subject of uncountable rumour in recent weeks, but he’s now calmed fears over his future at Stamford Bridge.
After three successful years on loan at Spanish La Liga side Atletico Madrid, the Belgium international goalkeeper to West London in 2014, and has been an important piece in the side’s achievement of winning two English Premier League titles in the last three seasons.
It would certainly come as no shock if they were keen to tie him down, but it hasn’t been as easy as getting him to pen a contract renewal quickly to commit his long-term playing future to Chelsea.
According to the Evening Standard, Courtois, 25, has already rejected an offer from Chelsea which didn’t satisfy his wage demand of about £200,000-weekly, and so undoubtedly, that would have added more concern to the contract situation along with the goalie’s personal situation of his two kids being raised in the City of Madrid.
However, the shot-stopper has calmed fears that he could leave the club sooner rather, but has claimed that negotiations before the campaign ends could be important.
He also stated that he expects to sit down for more talks next season, time will only tell eventually if a new deal can be agreed to silence rumours of a transfer back to Spain.
