Former Manchester City defender Stuart Pearce has taken the same stand with manager Jose Mourinho on the approach ahead of the winter transfer window which reopens in coming weeks.
It would be recalled that the Portuguese manager before the start of the season cried out on the need to sign defenders but that didn’t happen which resulted in a rift with the executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward.
The former Chelsea boss had predicted a difficult season for his side and that eventually came true with the Red Devils having a very slow start of the season to make it one of the worst in the club’s history.
However, Stuart Pearce stated that the Portuguese needs to add new defenders to his team if they must save the season knowing that United’s chance of a Champions League qualification is slim.
They are currently sitting eight in the Premier League table with 12 points behind league leaders Manchester City.
Stuart Pearce stressed that the first team that must be addressed by the Manchester United team is the defence before any other position.
However, United are beginning to return back to winning ways although, they were set back by the defeat they suffered against league leaders but they hope to return after the international break to salvage their season.
