Spartak Moscow boss Massimo Carrera has made it known that the advice he received from Chelsea boss Antonio Conte was crucial to his side’s ability to secure a 1-1 draw with Liverpool on Tuesday.
Carrera was assistant manager to Conte when they were still working at Juventus and Italy, and both of them have remained close friends keeping in touch.
The Spartak manager made it known before the match that he had spoken to his friend Antonio about Jurgen Klopp, even though the tactician played down the length of the discussion.
Jurgen Klopp’s side missed a handful of chances to win the Russian premier league champions, but Massimo admitted after the game that Conte’s tips had been crucial to his side’s performance.
The Moscow club scored first in the opening half of the clash before Phillipe Coutinho levelled the game with a brilliant move.
Liverpool have the opportunity to score more goals before full-time as they were able to rack up 16 attempts – six of which are on target. But the likes of Mohamed Salah, Robert Firmino and Daniel Sturridge couldn’t convert clear chances into a goal
The reds now have two points from two Champions League group games and are two points behind leaders Sevilla who won Maribor 3-0 yesterday too.
Liverpool are playing Newcastle next on Sunday in their next premier league game, before hosting Manchester United the following Saturday at Anfield.
