Former Liverpool striker Stan Collymore thinks Mourinho-led Manchester United will finish ahead of Liverpool and then claim a top four finish in the English Premier League this season.
With second-placed Liverpool still leading sixth-placed Man United with a handful of margin in the first phase of this season, the confident declaration from the Ex Player would surprise a lot of people, and might be regarded as some as an unrealistic belief.
But Collymore insists that Liverpool’s defensive weakness will undermine their efforts in the second phase of this season. He thinks this factor would lead to the collapse of Klopp’s side.
“I just see defensive frailties in Liverpool and a little bit of lack of quality in certain areas that maybe the other teams can mask,” said Collymore on his podcast.
“If I had to be a betting man and I had to look into a crystal ball then I would go Manchester City first, Chelsea second, Arsenal third.
“I’m going to stick my neck out and say Manchester United to nick fourth place. Liverpool fifth in a battle with Spurs. I still think third or fourth is the best Liverpool can hope for.”
Liverpool snatched the second position after a series of impressive games right from the start of the season, and it initially looked impossible for a team like Manchester United to stop them from grabbing a Champions League ticket next season.
Nevertheless, with the current performances Mourinho’s team is displaying, it is projected that the squad would be a force to reckon with next year.
