Although a lot of Manchester United fans are not too pleased with manager Jose Mourinho for benching Paul Pogba in the premier league clash against Huddersfield on Saturday, the Portuguese tactician sees nothing wrong with his action.
According to the former Chelsea boss, sitting on the bench ‘is not the worst thing in the world’.
Manchester United beat Huddersfield 2-0 at Old Trafford – thanks to goals from Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez, and manager Mourinho chose to use Scott McTominay in Pogba’s place. Scott was very much impressive in the duel, but Pogba was eventually introduced into the game in the 65th minute.
Many were of the opinion Mourinho simply benched Pogba to punish him for his unpleasant performance against Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday, but the Portuguese boss insists it was nothing close to that.
The former Real Madrid tactician said he chose to ‘change some few players’ for the game against Huddersfield, and that sitting on the bench for a game is not ‘the worst thing’.
Mourinho also heaped lots of praise on Scott due to his impressive performance at Old Trafford, tagging him a ‘fantastic’ player who doesn’t play like ‘a young boy’.
“I couldn’t be happier with [Scott’s] performance.” Jose said.
Manchester United are still sitting on the second spot of the premier league table, and Mourinho recently admitted he can no longer stop Man City from winning the trophy this season.
