Transfer setback for Chelsea as target schedule Real medical, set to complete £70million move

Mauro Icardi

Premier League Champions Chelsea look prepared to miss out on a move for Mauro Icardi, with reports claiming the Inter Milan forward’s transfer to Real Madrid is almost sealed.

The Argentina international forward is ready to move for about £70million and will undergo medicals with the Spanish side on 26 December, as reported by Diario Gol.

This is a shocking development in a transfer saga that has made some newspaper headlines in recent times, with the Sun reporting that Chelsea and Real Madrid were in a tussle over the £100million-rated striker.

Mauro Icardi looks a great talent and is having one of the best campaigns of his football career this season, netting 17 goals in 17 matches in all competitions this term.

Icardi, 24, is lethal up front at the moment and seems like he could be a good upgrade on Karim Benzema in the number 9 role for Zinedine Zidane’s team.

This comes as a bad news for the Blues, however, who needed more options in attack themselves after losing Spain striker Diego Costa.

Summer signing Alvaro Morata has done pretty well this season but there is little or no backup for the record signing at Stamford Bridge, with manager Antonio Conte rarely giving much playing opportunity to Belgian Michy Batshuayi.
