Mauro Icardi

Inter Milan striker Mauro Icardi made a welcomed return to the Nerazzurri squad for the first time in almost two months during the 4-0 thumping win over Genoa on Wednesday night.

The Nerazzurri secured a big Italian Serie A win over 10-man Genoa away from home to boost their chances of finishing in the top-four at the end of the season.

Icardi started the game and was on hand to double Inter’s lead from the spot in the 40th minute after Genoa defender Cristian Romero was sent off for denying a goalscoring opportunity.

It was the Argentine international’s 16th goal of the season.

Mauro Icardi had been in a feud with Inter Milan officials after he was dropped as the club captain and replaced by Samir Handanovic in February.

His situation at the club prompted transfer talks with major European sides like Real Madrid, Manchester United and Chelsea mentioned.

Inter Milan took the lead against Genoa in the 15th minute through Roberto Gagliardini before Icardi added a second goal.

Ivan Perisic scored the third goal 54 minutes before the aforementioned Gagliardini completed his brace and a convincing victory for Inter Milan.

Icardi played 80 minutes before he was replaced by Senegalese international Keita Bobo Balde.

Inter Milan cement third place as a result of the win over Genoa.
