Manchester United have been handed a major boost in their race to sign Barcelona defender Samuel Umtiti in the summer.
The Red Devils were linked with the player’s services earlier last month and they are believed to be making great progress in their discussions with his representative.
Barcelona have just raised United’s hope of luring the player to Old Trafford, according to Don Balon, the Blaugrana are now eyeing a move for Toulouse defender Issa Diop who is tipped to be the Frenchman’s replacement.
The 21-year-old defender has developed himself to become one of the best defenders in Ligue this season as he is ever-present in Toulouse’s starting lineup.
He has featured in 26 league matches, scoring two in the process despite playing at the back of the pitch.
His contract will expire by 2020 but he is being linked with numerous European powerhouses including Arsenal, Tottenham and now, Barcelona.
Toulouse are hoping to lay stronghold on the player as they are yet to name their asking price for their most impressive defender this season.
As for Umtiti, the Frenchman is all but set to end his Barcelona career after refusing to pen a new deal with the Spanish league giants.
Mourinho will be willing to complete the defender’s signature ahead of PSG and Monaco who are reportedly keeping close tabs on his situation at Camp Nou.
