Leicester City player Danny Drinkwater has emerged as a surprise target for Chelsea this summer following the departure of Nemanja Matic to Old Trafford last month.
And amid many speculations, former Leicester player Mark Schwarzer is of the opinion that Danny is capable of making the step up at Stamford Bridge.
Even though Chelsea have brought in Tiemoue Bakayoko already this summer, he is still recovering from an injury sustained during the end of last season. And apart from that, there is a void left by the departed Matic which must be filled by someone else – and Drinkwater has been identified as a guy capable for the job.
Apart from him, two other midfielders who have also been linked with the premier league champions are Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Ross Barkley.
However, many Chelsea fans are not feeling too comfortable with the idea of bringing Drinkwater to Stamford Bridge, considering his unpleasant performances last season at Leicester.
However, former Chelsea and Leicester City shot-stopper Schwarzer thinks the midfielder can thrive at Chelsea.
Speaking on talkSPORT, Mark drew our attention to the fact that Danny shouldn’t be compared with Matic, as, unlike the Serbian, the Englishman is more of a creative player.
‘Last term at Leicester City, we saw that he struggled without having N’Golo Kante by his side. But he is a very talented young man and has done incredibly well at the club’ he said.
