Fabinho

A top Monaco chief has given clubs interested in Fabinho some encouragement that a deal can be done for the talented player in the nearest future.

Fabinho was strongly linked with a move away from his side during the past summer transfer window following his impressive performances last season that helped Monaco with the French Ligue I title ahead of PSG.

He emerged as a target for Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United and was heavily linked with the Old Trafford club, but a move couldn’t materialise before the closure of the transfer window.

Monaco sold some of their top players during the summer window – including Tiemoue Bakayoko (to Chelsea) and Kylian Mbappe (to Paris Saint Germain), but Fabinho remained at the club.

And Monaco’s vice-president Vadim Vasilyev, speaking recently to Sky Sports, hailed Fabinho as a very important and regular player in the squad that can always be counted on. He also made it known that the midfielder could leave their side anytime.

The chief also confirmed that Manchester United and City are showing strong interest in the player.

Since it is very likely that Manchester United’s Micheal Carrick will retire next summer from playing on the pitch, Jose Mourinho will need to bring in another midfielder to fill any void the legend might leave.

There were also speculations that the French champions would demand something close to £75million for the Brazilian star
