Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has lavished praises on his 23-year-old England left full-back, Luke Shaw, after he was called up by Gareth Southgate for the Three Lions forthcoming matches between Spain and Switzerland in the International break.
The former Southampton player who has been at the receiving end Mourinho’s harsh criticisms in the past has been a standout player for the Red Devils this season even though the team has been playing far below the expectations of the supporters and coach.
At a pre-match press conference, the Manchester United coach was quoted as saying:
‘It’s a big week for him that hangs on a very important match with Burnley. He’s played three very good matches and that’s not easy to do when your team loses two of them. He had that balance and consistency, especially against Brighton in a bad team performance,’
Shaw, who has not donned the colours of the English national team since March 2017 will be very delighted that his talent, ability and potential is finally being recognised given his loss of form in the aftermath of some of his injuries and Mourinho’s scathing criticisms in the face of all that.
At this rate, Shaw will be a guaranteed starter in the game against Burnley in Turf Moor on Sunday barring any last minute surprises that might halt his progression into being a ‘proper football player’ .
