Six-time European champions Liverpool have been told to forget about the signing of highly rated Ajax Amsterdam defender Matthijs De Ligt according to one of their legends.

In a chat with the Irish Independent, former Liverpool player John Aldridge told the Reds to move on from Dutch international De Ligt.

The Liverpool legend had earlier urged the club to sign Matthijs De Ligt as a perfect centre back partner for Virgil Van Dijk.

De Ligt and Van Dijk are no strangers to each other as they both feature for the Dutch national team.

Both players have formed a potent centre back partnership in the colours of three-time World Cup finalists, the Netherlands.

According to John Aldridge, Liverpool should move on to strengthen other areas of the team.

He stated that a Liverpool transfer for De Ligt is largely impossible due to the financial demands from the player and his agent.

Liverpool are one of the clubs linked with a move for De Ligt who has emerged as one of the most sought-after players in the transfer window after a very good season for Ajax Amsterdam.

£75m-rated De Ligt led Ajax Amsterdam to two major trophies during the just concluded season.
