Arsenal star player Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is yet to sign a new deal at the Emirates and he has emerged as a target for Liverpool this summer. And it is understood that the Anfield club are set to smash their transfer record to sign the £40m-rated player.

The England international has 12 months to run on his existing contract with Arsenal and he is yet to hold discussions over an extension.

It is understood that Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is a big fan of the 23-year-old and the Anfield club have already held initial talks with the player’s representatives.

It was added that the Reds have promised the Englishman a central midfield role and hope that would be enough to make him agree to a switch. He has been playing wing-back.

Also, the Daily Express insists Liverpool are prepared to pay £40M to get his signature. If the deal should sail through and Oxlade-Chamberlain agree coming over to the Merseyside club, he will become the club’s most expensive player, beating the £35m paid for Andy Carroll in 2011.

However, it is understood that Arsenal does not want him to leave yet and are hopeful to agreeing on a new contract with him.

Arsenal won’t be playing in the Champions League next season, while Liverpool have one more push before making it to the group stage.
