Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho is reportedly pushing for a January move for AS Monaco midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko.
Reports in the Sunday Times have it that the Portuguese boss is keen to add midfield options to his current set-up after the departure of Memphis Depay and Morgan Schneiderlin earlier this month and has set sights on signing Bakayoko to replace them.
However, United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward is blocking the deal as he feels they can sign him for a lower fee at the end of the season which is a good news for Chelsea who have also showed interest in the defensive midfielder.
Although, Bakayoko had earlier downplayed suggestions he might leave the Ligue 1 side.
‘The idea of an exit crossed my mind at the start of the season,’ he told Eurosport.
‘I won’t leave Monaco this winter, that’s for sure. I don’t want to leave. Monaco are a beautiful club.
‘Certainly the Premier League makes you dream but I have no reason to leave this winter. Today, I have two goals: to finish as a champion in France and to go as far as possible in the Champions League.’
There are reports that the Red Devils entered negotiations with the 22-year-old midfielder but a fee has not been finalised.
