French Ligue 1 giants Marseille will have to contend with Spanish competition in the chase for Liverpool defender Alberto Moreno.
French media outlet L’Equipe claim that the 2018 Europa League finalists must fend off Spanish La Liga side Sevilla in the bid to sign Moreno.
The 26-year-old has been on the fringes of the Liverpool squad dating back to last season when Andrew Robertson emerged as the Reds’ first choice left-back upon his arrival from English Championship side Hull City in a £8m deal.
Spanish international left-back Moreno has started just one Premier League game this season.
His sole league start came in the 3-1 away win over Burnley at the start of this month.
The lack of first team action has led to talks about his future at the club in addition to the fact that he has just six months left on his current Liverpool contract.
He has been linked with European clubs like Marseille, Arsenal, Barcelona and former club Sevilla.
Alberto Moreno joined Liverpool from Sevilla in 2014 in a deal worth £12m.
Marseille manager Rudi Garcia is desperately in need of a new left-back but will have to face serious competition from Sevilla according to the aforementioned report.
The French giants won’t mind signing the Spaniard in the upcoming January transfer window but they may have to wait till Moreno becomes a free agent next summer.
