Liverpool have gone to the top of the Premier League table after they recorded a big win over basement club Huddersfield Town in their league clash at Anfield on Friday night.
The Reds knew that a win would be enough to take them back to the Premier League summit ahead of title rivals Manchester City and they achieved that target in emphatic fashion.
Manchester City had earlier gone to the Premier League summit on Wednesday night following the win over Manchester United in the Manchester Derby.
The Citizens defeated hosts Manchester United 2-0 courtesy second half strikes from Bernardo Silva and substitute Leroy Sane.
Liverpool took the lead against Huddersfield Town inside the first few seconds through summer signing Naby Keita off an assist from Egyptian international Mohamed Salah before Sadio Mane added a second goal midway through the first half for his 19th league goal of the season.
The aforementioned Salah ended the game as a contest with a third Liverpool goal on the stroke of halftime.
Senegalese international Mane scored his second goal of the game in the second half to give Liverpool a 4-0 win and also take his league tally to 20 goals alongside Salah.
Liverpool scored their fifth and final goal with seven minutes left on the clock.
The 5-0 was more than enough to take them two points clear at the Premier League summit.
