Five-time European champions Liverpool have been handed a big transfer blow on their pursuit of highly rated Napoli winger Lorenzo Insigne.

Italian international Insigne is widely regarded as one of the best forwards in Italy.

According to Italian news outlet La Repubblica, the Reds made an indirect bid of €70m which was eventually rejected by Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis who value the player at €150m.

It was revealed that Liverpool made the bid through super agent Mino Raiola who involved the player’s father.

Napoli supremo De Laurentiis was said to have turned down the Reds bid at a meeting with the father of the player (Insigne).

Lorenzo Insigne has been linked with Merseyside club Liverpool in the past and it looks like the Premier League table toppers are ready to step up their interest in the 27-year-old.

He has a contract that does not run out until the end of the 2021/22 season.

His last contract renewal came in 2017 and the time for a new contract could be sooner rather than later.

Lorenzo Insigne has been in very good form for Napoli this season after netting eight goals in addition to five assists from 19 games in the Italian Serie A.
