According to new reports, La Liga giants Barcelona are set to block Man United’s interest n Samuel Umtiti by offering the Frenchman a new deal that will increase his release clause.
The defender has been brilliant at Camp Nou this term and has emerged as a top target for Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United in recent weeks.
The Portuguese boss looks to add more quality to his backside at Old Trafford, and he has identified Umtiti as a guy that can make him happy in his team.
Samuel has a release clause of £53 million in his current contract at Barcelona, and he will pass Benjamin Mendy to become the most expensive defender in history if Man United decide to activate the clause.
The red devils are also linked with Real Madrid’s Raphael Varane, and they won’t need to pay that much to Zindedine Zidane’s side to get Varane.
However, Spanish newspaper Marca made it known that Barcelona do not want to lose another key player due to their release clause being triggered – as they lost Neymar to PSG.
And since Umtiti is currently one of the lowest paid players in the club, they are aware Man United could tempt him with something bigger.
As such, they are set to offer the player a deal that will see him earn more wages, and will also increase his release clause to discourage Man United from coming close to him.
