According to Pierpaolo Marino (former Napoli director), premier league heavyweights Manchester United are showing interest in the club’s star player Dries Mertens who has a £25 million release clause.
Mertens signed a new deal few months ago at Napoli, but the talented player has been linked with a move away from the club in recent times.
Bigger European sides are understood to be interested in signing him following his impressive performances last season – where he was able to score 28 goals.
The Belgian star has been playing a more advanced role at his Italian club that sees him enjoyed the most productive campaign of his career, and he has continued in that same line this new term. This season so far in the Italian top flight, only two players (Paulo Dybala and Ciro Immobile) have scored more goals than him
Dries is clocking 30 next May, and has been linked with big English clubs including Chelsea and Manchester United. Considering that he is moving towards the final phase of his career, the Serie A club are likely to sell him, even though they are expected to demand a huge fee.
And Napoli’s former director Mr Marino, speaking to Italian newspaper Tuttosport, seems to have confirmed the €28 Million release clause in the player’s deal and e also stated that the red devils are keeping tabs on him.
‘It turns out that (Manchester) United are following him very closely.’ Pierpaolo revealed.
