Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud will stay at the club beyond this summer after he signed a new contract.

The news of his contract extension was revealed by the official Twitter handle of Chelsea earlier on Tuesday.

Olivier Giroud has signed a one-year contract extension to take his Chelsea deal to the end of next season.

The French World Cup winner had few weeks left on his previous contract before the Blues activated the extra year clause in the contract to take it to the summer of 2020.

Olivier Giroud signed an 18-month deal when he joined Chelsea from London rivals Arsenal at the start of last year with the option of an additional year.

Arsenal received £18m for his transfer to Chelsea in January 2018.

He won the FA Cup title with Chelsea in his first season at the club and that could be followed by the Europa League title.

Giroud and Chelsea will face his former club Arsenal in the final of the Europa League billed for Baku in Azerbaijan in eight days’ time.

The Frenchman has assured the Chelsea faithfuls that his allegiance with Arsenal is a thing of the past ahead of their Europa League final meeting in Baku later this month.
