Chelsea set to raid former tactician for 24-year-old next big thing

Chelsea are closely monitoring 24-year-old Newcastle ace Jamaal Lascelles, with it being claimed that the side could make an approach for the defender in the summer transfer window.

This is as per the Evening Standard, who are claiming that Antonio Conte’s team are keen on signing another centre-half and that they are impressed with the players these last few season.

The news publication are also stating that Chelsea are keen on bringing more young and England internationals to the side, so the defender would slot in perfectly.

Since completing the move from Nottingham Forest to St James’ Park in 2015, the defender has been one of Newcastle’s best performers.

Consistent performer

In 92 matches for Raphael Benitez’ side, the England international has managed to gather a record eight goals and provided two assists, a good return for a central defender.

So far this campaign, he has been pivotal for Newcastle, with his defensive attribute and leadership in defence has been important for his club’s relegation battle.

With the Englishman being one of the most consistent performers outside the top six teams in the English Premier League, it’s certainly just a matter of time before a top European team comes along and make a move for the former Forest ace.
