According to reports, Chelsea are expected to seal their very first signing of the current transfer window today by signing Ross Barkley from Merseyside club Everton for about £15million.
The England international forward was a transfer target for Chelsea during the summer window before the deal failed to materialize, but the Daily Mail is now claiming the move is back on and could be completed by Friday.
Ross Barkley seems like a very useful signing as an option for the Blues, but it’s difficult to imagine the forward being first choice player at the Bridge considering his relatively poor development recently at Everton.
Despite breaking into the limelight as a highly rated youngster a few seasons ago, the attacker has failed to improve as expected and would seem a risky buy if not for his low valuation.
As reported by the Mail, the attacking midfielder is out of Everton contract in the summer window anyway, so that would show why the 24-year-old pacey forward seems to be heading to the West London club on the cheap.
If the Everton ace does eventually fulfil his potential, this could be a smart signing by Chelsea head coach Antonio Conte, especially as London rivals Tottenham are also named as suitors by the same publication.
