Bad news for Wolves as Manchester United join race for Japanese winger

It was revealed to newsmen last month that Shoya Nakajima’s move to Wolverhampton Wanderers was almost a done deal.

According to Portimonese’s president Rodiney Sampaio while speaking to Radio Ranascenca, the 24-year-old winger was 80 per cent certain to move to the Monileux stadium.

Having raised the hope of many Wanderers’ supporters, the deal has somehow fallen through and no one is talking about it.

It is surprising that Wolves — who are unconvincing at the final third of the pitch in recent weeks— are no longer in contact with the Portuguese side for the player’s services.

Latest reports emanating from the Portuguese side are suggesting that Manchester United have set their eyes on the Japanese player who has scored five goals and five assists in all competition this season.

According to O Jogo, United manager Gunnar Solskjaer sent scouts to critically assess Nakajima’s performance against Benfica on Wednesday.

The player didn’t disappoint in front of the scouts as he produced a five-star performance to help his team record a stunning 2-0 victory over the Portuguese powerhouse.

Considering Nakajima’s impressive stats so far, it won’t be surprising if the Red Devils beat the Monileux outfits to the player’s signature.

In the same vein, another media outlet A Bola reports that the Red Devils are set to offer £18m for the lively winger.

However, Solskjaer’s move for the 24-year-old still baffles many United fans who are yet to figure out the reason behind such a move.
